Carney’s prediction – will the financial sector thrive after Brexit?

Yesterday, Mark Carney, the Bank of England governor, predicted that the financial sector will thrive after Brexit. If he is right, the financial sector could double in size to be 20 times as big as GDP within the next 25 years. This is obviously great news, and we are pleased to say that we think he might be right. Though the period before and after the referendum was quiet, we are now seeing a considerable upturn in activity. The last couple of months have been particularly busy, which is unusual for the summer, given it is holiday season.

Speaking to our contacts, we are finding the overall mood buoyant, with even the more cautious voices believing that the financial services industry will do well in the coming years. Though it is good to remain cautious, the signs seem to be good.
